Tidepool Town sits where the rocks meet the sea, in that shallow stretch of water that fills and empties twice a day. It is a crowded, chattering, sideways-scuttling sort of place, and Truly has lived at the quiet edge of it for as long as she can remember.
She knows every ridge of her own shell. She knows exactly how long she can hold still before anyone notices her. What she does not know is what might happen if she swam out past the third rock, where the light goes wobbly and the voices get louder.
Trust grows one small step, and one friendship, at a time.
Then a hermit crab named Pim loses his shell on the far side of the pool, and nobody else has noticed. Truly is the only one who saw. Which means Truly is the only one who can go.
