Willow Brook Farm runs on routine. The cows amble, the hens fuss, the barn cat judges everyone from the fence post, and the whole place moves at the speed of a slow afternoon.
Then there is Gracie. Gracie honks at the weather. Gracie honks at the wheelbarrow. Gracie has a view on how the ducks are organising themselves and she would like to share it. She is not unkind, exactly. She simply has never once wondered what it sounds like from the other side.
Being right and being kind are not the same thing.
When the new goslings arrive and one of them will not come out of the reeds, Gracie does the hardest thing she has ever done. She stops talking, and she waits.
